Eligibility & Qualifications

Only Indian nationals are eligible. Each post has specific essential qualifications and experience requirements which must be satisfied by 14 December 2025 (closing date).

Project Scientist (E / III / II / I)

• M.Sc. / B.Tech required; Doctorate or M.Tech preferred for senior levels.
• Experience requirements: E – 11 yrs, III – 7 yrs, II – 3 yrs, I – freshers/entry-level as specified.

Scientific Assistant

• Bachelor’s Degree in Science / Computer Science / IT / Electronics / Telecom or equivalent.

Admin Assistant

• Graduate in any discipline with good computer skills (MS Office, data entry).

Age Limit (as on 14-12-2025)

Selection Process

Selection will be through screening of applications followed by shortlisting and interview. Final selection is based on interview performance. No TA/DA is admissible for interview.

Note: IMD’s notification focuses on screening + interview, but the following is an expected and practical syllabus to prepare from previous IMD recruitments and similar scientific posts.

Project Scientist (All Levels)

• Meteorology & Atmospheric Science: Atmospheric dynamics, thermodynamics, NWP basics, satellite & radar meteorology, monsoon dynamics, climate modelling.
• Physics / Applied Physics: Fluid dynamics, heat transfer, statistical mechanics basics relevant to atmospheric studies.
• Computer Science / Data: Python programming, data structures, numerical methods, machine learning basics for weather data, HPC & big data concepts.
• Electronics / Instrumentation: Sensors, remote sensing fundamentals, signal processing, microcontrollers used in meteorological instruments.
• Research Methodology: Data interpretation, statistics, project writing, publications & presentation skills.

Scientific Assistant

• General science (physics/chemistry basics), basics of meteorology, computer fundamentals, data handling, basic electronics (if applicable), general aptitude.

Admin Assistant

• General English, basic office procedures, MS Office (Word/Excel/PowerPoint), typing & data entry, basic arithmetic & reasoning, record keeping.
